Life Skills Workshops

Thanks to the phenomenal skills of our members, Women in Philanthropy holds monthly life skills workshops for foster youth on topics such as healthy cooking, interview skills, public speaking, assertive communications, financial literacy and more.

$en$e-Ability Foster Youth Project

Women in Philanthropy is working with United Way $en$e-Ability partners to create Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) for foster youth before they leave the system. IDAs are special bank accounts that earn two dollars for every dollar the foster youth saves. Matching funds are deposited in an account held by United Way and can be used to purchase specific items, such as transportation, education, computers, rent and health insurance. While saving, foster youth also take financial literacy classes. Foster youth can earn extra funds through good grades, school attendance, completing financial education classes, creating resumes and more.

Holiday Stockings

Women in Philanthropy partners with leading organizations to provide holiday stockings filled with gift cards, flu kits, snacks, personal emergency kits and more for emancipated foster youth working to continue their education.

Emancipation Baskets

Women in Philanthropy members collect towel sets, toiletries and luggage each spring as part of the Sacramento County emancipation basket program that provides necessary household items to emancipating foster youth.
